Welcome to Grantham Writers’ website!
Grantham Writers held its last meeting in December 2024. It had been going for 35 years. There are no current plans to resume meetings.
Grantham Writers was a friendly group for anyone living in or around Lincolnshire who wanted to explore creative writing. We welcomed writers of all ages and abilities, working in poetry or prose. Whether experienced or new writers, whether writing for publication or simply as a hobby, everyone was very welcome to join us.
For those looking for encouragement and support on their creative journey, Grantham Writers offered help. Joining the group was an ideal way to develop and hone writing skills.

Grantham Writers
We always aimed to provide new writers and poets with support and encouragement.
It is easy to be totally engrossed in that ‘spark of an idea’, but with the support of other like-minded individuals it helps to explore many avenues.
Creatives encourage creatives. Whether the idea comes from a word, a picture, an experience or event, getting those feelings and emotions onto paper (or the laptop) is always hard. We write, re- write and re write in our search for the perfect text, but the group was there to back up its members and support them.
Guidance and support
With many experienced writers and poets in the group, there was a wealth of knowledge and expertise on hand to help the beginner. Whether they wanted to write for publication, or just personal pleasure, all were welcome.
Before Lockdown 2020 Grantham Writers’ members met on the third Monday of each month at Grantham Senior Citizens Club, from 7:30-9:30pm. We listened to and discussed each other’s writing, hosted talks by professional writers, ran competitions, organised events and published anthologies of our work.
Each month a theme was set to motivate members into investigating a range of topics and styles. The results of these ranged from very serious to outright humour. Every style is different.
What was a club night like?
The evenings varied from one meeting to the next.
There was always the chance to read your own work. Often competitions were set and the results announced.
External events and activities were discussed.
Guest speakers were invited to present or discuss new ideas and the way they work.
Film was another area that could be experienced with famous authors talking about their work. New styles and ways to write were investigated.
Links with other groups were encouraged.
There was something for everyone of all ages.
