Welcome to Grantham Writers’ website!
Now in its 25th year, Grantham Writers is a friendly group for anyone living in or around Lincolnshire who wants to explore creative writing. We welcome writers of all ages and abilities, working in poetry or prose. Whether you’re an experienced or new writer, and whether you write for publication or simply as a hobby, you’re very welcome to join us.
Grantham Writers’ members meet on the third Monday of each month at Grantham Museum, from 7:30-9:30pm. We listen to and discuss each other’s writing, host talks by professional writers, run competitions, organise events and publish anthologies of our work.
If you’re looking for encouragement and support on your creative journey, Grantham Writers can help. Joining the group is an ideal way to develop and hone your writing skills.
Why not browse our website to get a taste of what Grantham Writers is like? If you have any questions, please contact our secretary, Liz Lockhart: email@example.com.
Grantham is a small market town in Lincolnshire. It has created some of the most notable figures in British history.
Included in this list are: Lady Margaret Thatcher (The first female Prime Minister): Sir Isaac Newton (scientist): Geoff Capes (athlete): Antonio Berardi (Fashion designer) Richard Todd (actor): Nicholas Parsons (TV Presenter): Vince Eager (singer) and many more.
We always aim to provide new writers and poets with support and encouragement.
It is easy to be totally engrossed in that ‘spark of an idea’, but with the support of other like-minded individuals it helps to explore many avenues.
Creatives encourage creatives. Whether the idea comes from a word, a picture, an experience or event, getting those feelings and emotions onto paper (or the laptop) is always hard. We write, re- write and re write in our search for the perfect text, but the group is always there to back up its members and support them.
Guidance and support
With many experienced writers and poets in the group, there is a wealth of knowledge and expertise on hand to help the beginner. Whether you want to write for publication, or just personal pleasure, all are welcome.
We aim to encourage schools and other adults to develop their creative skills and improve their writing techniques.
Each month a theme is set to motivate members into investigating a range of topics and styles. The result of these range from very serious to outright humour. Every style is different.
What is a club night like?
The evening can vary from one meeting to the next.
There is always the chance to read your own work. Often competitions are set and the results are announced.
External events and activities are discussed.
Guest speakers are invited to present to discuss new ideas and the way they work.
Film is another area that can be experienced with famous authors talking about their work. New styles and ways to write are investigated.
Links with other groups are encouraged.
There is something for everyone of all ages.
