Competition Rules 2021

• The start date for the 300 Word Flash Fiction Competition The Iron Lady will be 1st March 2021.

• All entries must be received by 12 Noon on Monday 20th Thursday 30th September 2021.

• The competition is open to anyone aged 11 years and over.

• Entries can be from anywhere in the world.

• Each person may enter a maximum of two stories. There is no entry fee.

• Entries may be submitted by email or by post. Emails to granthamwriterstoo@gmail.com

• Postal entries must be accompanied by an entry form and be addressed to Grantham Writers Flash Fiction Competition, c/o 45 Harrowby Rd, Grantham, NG31 9ED.

• One entry form, whether submitted by email or post, may cover one or two stories.

• Email entries will be acknowledged by email. If you do not receive a response within a week then please email again.

• If we cannot open or read stories sent in attachments we will contact you to ask you to resend in another format or post in.

• A confirmation of receipt of a postal entry will be sent to the email address, if supplied. Otherwise the entrant should enclose a stamped addressed envelope/postcard.

• Stories must be no more than 300 words, not including the title.

• Stories must be written in English.

• Stories must be readable or they cannot be included in the judging.

• Stories must not have been published – including self-published, on a website or broadcast – or featured amongst the winners in another competition.

• The title of the story must appear at the top of the page.

• Nothing must appear on any page which would identify the author.

• Stories will not be returned, so please retain a copy.

• Stories cannot be altered once entered. Entries can be withdrawn and replaced for another payment.

• All entries will be considered anonymously by the judge.

• The judge is not eligible to enter the competition.

• Any plagiarised work will be disqualified along with any other work submitted by the entrant.

• The winner of first prize will receive £100, second prize £50.

• There will be an additional Grantham Writers Group prize of the Eric Chappell Cup awarded to the best story written by a member of the Grantham Writers Group.

• There will be an additional prize of a £20 book token for the best entry by a young person aged under 19 years.

• The winning stories will be published on the Grantham Writers website and Grantham Writers Facebook page, and by submitting your entries you give permission for this.

• The prizes will be awarded on Saturday 9th 16th October 2021.

• Results will be announced on the Grantham Writers Website and on the Grantham Writers Facebook page on the same date.

• The Secretary and Chairman of the Grantham Writers Group reserve the right not to award prizes if, in the judge’s opinion, such an action is justified.
